Forex Session Hours in the Philippines: Which Window to Trade

Forex runs around the clock, but in PHT the sessions land at very different times of your day.

20:00-01:00 PHT — London / New York overlap, the most liquid hours of the day.

Until 28 March London is on GMT, and until 1 November New York is on EDT; the hours shown apply to the clocks in force today. The Philippines does not change clocks, so each move shifts these local times by an hour and the page is rebuilt on the day it happens.

The four session hours in Philippine Time, at a glance

Sydney runs 05:00 to 14:00 PHT, Tokyo runs 08:00 to 17:00 PHT, London runs 16:00 to 01:00 PHT, and New York runs 20:00 to 05:00 PHT. Those are the four windows you will see on any session chart, already converted from their home timezones to UTC+8.

Because the Philippines sits at UTC+8, Tokyo overlaps your normal working day almost exactly, while London and New York fall in the evening and past midnight. That single fact shapes which session a Filipino trader can realistically watch live.

Sessions are not strict doors that open and shut. They are the hours when the main financial centres are most active, and liquidity tends to build near the open and fade near the close.

Tokyo and Sydney: the daytime window that fits Filipino schedules

Sydney opens first at 05:00 PHT, which is early morning in Manila, and Tokyo follows at 08:00 PHT. Together they cover the hours when most people in the Philippines are commuting, working or studying, so you can check charts during a lunch break without setting an alarm.

The Asian session is often calmer than London or New York, with narrower ranges in many pairs. That can suit someone still learning to read price action, because moves are slower and there is more time to think before clicking.

The trade-off is that the biggest daily moves usually happen later. If your available hours are daytime only, accept that you are watching a quieter market and plan around it rather than fighting it.

London and New York: the evening overlap in PHT

London opens at 16:00 PHT and closes at 01:00 PHT. New York opens at 20:00 PHT and closes at 05:00 PHT. The two overlap from 20:00 to 01:00 PHT, and that four-hour stretch is when activity in major pairs is typically at its heaviest.

For a Filipino reader, this is prime evening time. You can finish dinner, open your app and trade the overlap without losing sleep, as long as you stop at 01:00 rather than drifting into the New York solo hours.

Trading the overlap also means faster moves and sharper reversals. Wider swings cut both ways, so position size and stop placement deserve more care here than during the Tokyo day.

Choosing your window and checking who you fund

Pick the session that matches your real routine, not the one that sounds most exciting. If you work Philippine office hours, Tokyo is your natural fit. If you are free in the evening, London and the London-New York overlap give you the deepest liquidity.

Before funding anything, check the entity against the SEC Philippines list of registered entities at sec.gov.ph. That register is the place to confirm what appears there, rather than relying on a forum post or an app banner.

For deposits and withdrawals, GCash is the rail most Filipino traders reach for, with Maya, InstaPay, PESONet, bank transfer and card also common. Any fees, limits or processing times sit on the broker's funding page and inside the GCash app, so read those screens directly before you send money.

Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice, so they are not printed here. Both ends are worth checking - the app you pay from and the broker's funding page - and withdrawals should go back to the account that paid.

Why the session clock and your funding clock are two different clocks

A session hour tells you when the market is busy. It says nothing about when your money arrives. A deposit can clear at a time when the chart is quiet, and a withdrawal requested during the London overlap can still sit until local banking hours resume.

This gap catches people out on Monday mornings in PHT. The market has reopened, but the funding channel behind it may not have. Treat the two as separate schedules and check both before planning anything.

The order that works: confirm the session window first, then confirm the funding channel's own timing. The broker's funding page and the GCash app show their current processing windows. Those are the pages to read, not this one.

The four things a broker will offer you

MetaTrader 5The newer build; more order types and timeframesMetaQuotes
cTraderDepth of market and a different order modelSpotware

A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. Check the register for the licence; the app store only tells you the app exists.

The weekend gap is a funding problem before it is a trading problem

Forex runs through the week, but the rails many Filipino traders use do not run at the same rhythm. A request placed late on a Friday in PHT can land on the other side of the weekend, whatever the chart was doing when it was sent.

The failure mode is simple. Someone sees a session close, decides to move money, and then waits. Nothing is broken. The two calendars simply do not line up, and the wait is the normal result rather than a fault.

Plan around the gap instead of fighting it. If a transfer matters for the coming week, start it earlier in the week rather than at the edge of the weekend, and let the app confirm when it has actually landed.

Brokers usually also ask for proof of address; requirements differ per firm. The account-opening page of the broker lists what that firm accepts.

Session labels describe liquidity, not permission to trade

A common misreading is that the Asian session is for Asian traders and the London session is for Europeans. Sessions are named after the financial centres where activity concentrates. They are not a rule about who may place an order.

What actually changes across the day is how much activity is present and how quickly prices respond. That affects how an order behaves, not whether it is allowed. A Filipino trader can act in any window the broker is open for.

The practical consequence is about expectations. A quiet window can mean slower movement and wider gaps between prices. Read the session label as a description of conditions, then decide whether those conditions suit what you intended to do.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. Brands are marketing; search the legal entity the broker prints at the bottom of its site.

Check the regulator before you check the spread

The order people usually follow is backwards. They compare platforms, then look for legitimacy. Reverse it. Confirm the entity first, because nothing else on the page matters if the counterparty is not who it claims to be.

The SEC Philippines publishes a registry of capital market participants at sec.gov.ph. That is the public list to consult. It is a starting point for your own check, not a guarantee about any particular firm, and it does not replace reading the terms yourself.

Once that is settled, the funding side becomes the next question. GCash, Maya, InstaPay, PESONet, bank transfer and card each behave differently, and the broker's own funding page states which are supported and how they are handled.

None of this is a judgement about any firm. Each line is a check you can run yourself, starting at sec.gov.ph.

What time is the London session in the Philippines?

London runs from 16:00 to 01:00 Philippine Time. That puts the open in the late afternoon and the close just after midnight, which is convenient if you trade after work.

What time is the New York session in the Philippines?

New York runs from 20:00 to 05:00 PHT. Most Filipino traders focus on the earlier part, from 20:00 to 01:00, when London is still open and the two sessions overlap.

When is the Asian session in the Philippines?

Sydney starts at 05:00 PHT and Tokyo runs from 08:00 to 17:00 PHT, so the Asian hours line up with the Philippine working day. Activity is usually quieter than the evening overlap, which can suit beginners.

A margin account can lose more than it holds. Most retail accounts trading forex and CFDs lose money, and nothing on this page is advice.
