Is Forex Legal in the Philippines?
Forex trading is legal in the Philippines; whether a specific broker may deal with Filipino residents is a separate question you can answer at sec.gov.ph.

Showing 40 of 153 entries as published by the SEC Philippines on 2026-10-10, broker and dealer licences first. The full list is at sec.gov.ph.
Reference only and it can lag. Look for the legal entity name in the broker's own footer — not the brand — and check that the licence covers what you intend to use it for.
We leave the current regulatory position to the regulator rather than paraphrase it. Check the SEC Philippines registry of capital market participants at sec.gov.ph, and read any advisory the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines has published about the platform you are considering.
Forex trading is legal in the Philippines, but the broker question is the one that matters
You can legally buy and sell foreign currency in the Philippines, and plenty of Filipinos do it through banks, money changers and online platforms. What trips people up is a different question: whether the particular app or website they are about to fund is allowed to offer that service to someone living here.
The regulator named in the facts for this page is the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines, usually shortened to SEC Philippines. Its public register, the SEC Philippines list of registered entities, lives at sec.gov.ph. That list is the place to look, and it is the only place this guide will point you to for a definitive answer.
Do not treat a working app, a slick landing page or a friend's withdrawal screenshot as proof of anything. A company can be registered for one activity and not another, and a register entry is not a promise about how it will treat your money. Check the register, then decide.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. Brands are marketing; search the legal entity the broker prints at the bottom of its site.
How to check a broker against the SEC Philippines list
Open sec.gov.ph and find the list of registered entities. Search the exact company name shown on the broker's site, not the brand name you saw in an ad. Names often differ by a word or a suffix, and that difference is the whole point of checking.
Read what the entity is registered to do. If the description does not match the service you are being offered, that is your answer, even if the name matches. If you cannot find the entity at all, treat that as unanswered rather than as a green light.
Keep a note of what you found and when you checked. Registers change, and a broker's status can change with them. A check you did last year is not a check you have done today.

An indicative rate is for sizing a position in your head, not for settling one. The difference between this rate and the one your broker uses is money you pay.
GCash, Maya and the rest: payment rails are not a licence
Funding an account with GCash, Maya, InstaPay, PESONet, a bank transfer or a card is convenient, and most Filipino traders will recognise that flow. It tells you the payment moved. It does not tell you the recipient is registered for what it is selling you.
Payment apps are built to move money quickly, and speed cuts both ways. Before you send anything, read the broker's own funding page for how deposits and withdrawals work, what currencies are accepted, and what identity checks apply. If the funding page is vague, that vagueness is information.
A common mistake is assuming a familiar logo equals protection. It does not. The rail is the road, not the driver. Check the driver separately at sec.gov.ph.
Ways money reaches an account in the Philippines
- GCash · used most

- Bank transfer

Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice, so they are not printed here. Both ends are worth checking - the app you pay from and the broker's funding page - and withdrawals should go back to the account that paid.
Timing your trading around PHT session hours
The Philippines runs on Philippine Time, PHT, which is UTC+8. That shapes which sessions fall inside your waking hours. Sydney runs 05:00 to 14:00 PHT, Tokyo 08:00 to 17:00 PHT, London 16:00 to 01:00 PHT, and New York 20:00 to 05:00 PHT.
The London and New York overlap lands at 20:00 to 01:00 PHT, which is late evening for most people here. If you work daytime hours, that overlap means trading after dinner or not at all, and it is worth deciding which you prefer before you open anything.
Session hours describe when markets are active, not when you should trade. Quiet hours can suit a slower approach, and busy hours can punish a rushed one. Pick the window that fits your routine rather than forcing your routine around the clock.
| Part of the day | Local time · PHT |
|---|---|
| Busiest window | 20:00-01:00 PHT — London and New York open together |
| Thinnest stretch | 05:00-14:00 PHT — Sydney alone, wider spreads |
| European open | 16:00-01:00 PHT |
| US open | 20:00-05:00 PHT |
| Closed | Friday New York close until the Sydney open on Monday |
Until 28 March London is on GMT, and until 1 November New York is on EDT; the hours shown apply to the clocks in force today. The Philippines does not change clocks, so each move shifts these local times by an hour and the page is rebuilt on the day it happens.
What the SEC Philippines list actually proves, and what it leaves on you
A name appearing on the SEC Philippines registry of capital market participants confirms that entity's registration status, not that it will execute your orders fairly. Registration is a starting filter. The rest of the judgement, including how your money is held and how withdrawals are processed, stays with you.
The common failure mode runs the other way too. A broker can operate legally offshore and still be absent from the SEC Philippines list, because it is not offering securities to Filipino residents through a local entity. Absence is not automatic proof of fraud; it is proof you cannot lean on local recourse.
So treat the registry as one input among several. Check the exact legal name on your account agreement against the registry entry, since brand names and corporate names often differ. If they do not match, ask the broker to explain in writing before you fund anything.

The order of operations that prevents most funding mistakes
Most problems start with sequence. People open an account, link GCash or Maya, send money, and only then read the withdrawal terms. Reverse it. Confirm the entity on the SEC Philippines registry first, then read the broker's own funding and withdrawal page, then decide whether to proceed at all.
The second step is a test withdrawal, not a test deposit. Deposit methods and withdrawal methods are frequently not symmetrical. A rail that funds your account smoothly, such as InstaPay or a card, may not be the rail the broker uses to send money back, and PESONet and bank transfer can behave differently again.
Finally, keep the paper trail inside the apps. GCash and Maya receipts, bank confirmations and the broker's transaction history together form your evidence if a withdrawal stalls. Screenshot at the time of each transfer, because in-app records can age out of easy view.
| Platform | What it is | Who makes it |
|---|---|---|
| MetaTrader 4 | The older standard; expert advisors and a large script ecosystem | MetaQuotes |
| MetaTrader 5 | The newer build; more order types and timeframes | MetaQuotes |
| cTrader | Depth of market and a different order model | Spotware |
| The broker's own app | Usually simpler, and tied to that one firm | The broker |
A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. Check the register for the licence; the app store only tells you the app exists.
Is forex trading legal in the Philippines?
Yes, buying and selling foreign currency is legal here. Whether a particular broker may offer its services to you is a separate matter, and the SEC Philippines list of registered entities at sec.gov.ph is where you check that. Read the entry carefully and match it to what the broker is actually offering.
Can I use GCash or Maya to fund a forex account?
GCash, Maya, InstaPay, PESONet, bank transfer and card are all common ways Filipinos move money, and some brokers accept them. A successful transfer only confirms the payment worked. It says nothing about whether the broker is registered, so verify that separately at sec.gov.ph and read the broker's funding page before sending anything.
What are the best hours to trade forex in the Philippines?
In PHT, Sydney runs 05:00 to 14:00, Tokyo 08:00 to 17:00, London 16:00 to 01:00, and New York 20:00 to 05:00. The London and New York overlap is 20:00 to 01:00 PHT, a late window for most people here. Choose based on when you can concentrate, not on which session sounds busiest.
